There's no "flame war" going on that I could find. There are seven comments at EaterPDX: one is a link to this editorial, one's a double-post and the first comment appears to be an earlier version of the double-posted comment. Finally, one comment is reposted, and is the one and only comment so far, on the Oregonian's blog post about this piece. Big whoop—or am I missing something?

And T-Bone, check your reading comprehension. "(W)ait, get it right, and then reach out" doesn't sound like Gorham's chastising those who seek press… just those who do so prematurely and possibly for the wrong reasons.

I'd be curious to know John's take on the flame war going on over at Eater regarding this article. A few people have laid the claim that it is a bit hypocritical to publish an article that name drops your businesses, awards, and popularity, all while claiming not to seek press, and chastising those that do. Seems like a pretty fair critique. Also, should chefs really take themselves so serious as to not allow for some occasional levity?

Thanks for this post, Chef! I am a female chef who is definitely not "hot" in the looks department. I have short hair and a wiry frame. I have been mistaken for a male many times and while it has bothered me from time to time I'm more proud of what I've accomplished. I am proud to say I've continued learning new and better ways to cook. I love that while I've not gotten any national accolades I've improved my craft and the way I live my life overall. While a James Beard award would be nice, I'll be more proud to say that I've grown and fed people well when it's all said and done.
