Wherever I am, whenever I see a bottle of wine that says "Imported by Kermit Lynch" on the back I know it's going to be a wine of quality and interest. I'd also like to call out the only other wine writer I admire with the same degree of regard, and that's Jeremy Oliver, who writes only about Australian wines. His grounded sensibility and perspective on what makes wine enjoyable and worth paying attention to bear a remarkable congruence to Kermit's.

The wines I have drank from Kermit's shop over the years have been some of the most instructive, inspirational (and yes enjoyable) wines I have had the pleasure to encounter. Many of his selections have the unique property of being appropriate for either a casual night at home or an elegant dinner out. Those bottle have informed my approach to winemaking and encouraged many of us to test stylistic boundaries in our cellars. Hats off to a great run! And thanks.

Great article. Kermit Lynch, along with Michael Broadbent, would probably be considered as my two primary influences in how I view, taste and appreciate wine--both on a personal level and in its larger societal context.

It must be highly gratifying to Mr. Lynch to see the market--after a twenty year jouney into the wilderness marked by an infatuation with hedonistic fruit-bombs (or as I like to call it the era of grotesque people drinking grotesque wines) coming strongly back to notions of authenticity, food compatibility and a notion of origin.
