John Lyons is the founder of www.Earthmatters.biz, a gardening school in Los Angeles' Silver Lake neighborhood, and thewovengarden.com, a firm specializing in edible landscaping. He has written on gardening for the Los Angeles Times and California Gardener. John was born and raised on a farm in western Ireland, and he trained in hotel management in Ireland, England and Switzerland before finishing his studies at Cornell University. After moving to the United States in 1990, he founded Daedalus, now The Origin Theatre Co., an Irish contemporary theater company in New York where he remains a member of the company's advisory board. After moving to Los Angeles in 1998, he opened The Austin Agency, representing theatre actors for stage and screen for eight years. At all points and places along his journey he gardened, whether it was a window box on the Bahnhof Strasse in Zurich, a rooftop in Brooklyn or a ¼-acre plot in Chatsworth, Calif.
