OMG these muffins are AMAZING! Came in copule days ago to the cafe and also tried your vegan/gluten free Apple struesel muffin also AMAZING! Tired and looked for a recipe online but couldn’t find anything comparable to it. =(

In the Oxford English Dictionary the first definition of “currant” is “The raisin or dried fruit prepared from a dwarf seedless variety of grape, grown in the Levant; much used in cookery and confectionery.” The first citation dates from 1334. So it does not seem true that, as the above article states, “When they began to be imported to the United States in the 1920s, someone saw ‘Corinth’ on the boxes, transcribed it as ‘currant,’ and the rest is history.”
In response to the inquiries in the comments above, Pudwill Farms of Nipomo sells black currants at the Santa Monica and other farmers markets.

I agree with the last comment. Even in Canada the red, white and black varieties are very commonly picked and sold fresh for use in pies, jellies, and jams.
